Checking the air conditioner for a refrigerant leak

A/C Refrigerant Leak Check — with photos of the leak point

A few weeks after a regas the A/C blows warm again, which means the refrigerant is escaping somewhere. We check whether the system holds vacuum, inspect the joints, pipes, condenser and compressor for oil traces, and add UV dye if needed. We show you the leak point and quote the repair.

Questions before you book.

Straight answers about the inspection, approval and next step.

How long does a leak check take?

About an hour. If the leak is small and not visible straight away, we suggest adding dye and coming back in a few days.

The refrigerant will escape through the same leak, and the compressor will run short of oil. We fix the leak first, then regas.

No, these are different systems: refrigerant works in the A/C, while coolant is in the engine cooling system.
