Why does the gearbox come off to replace the bearing?

The bearing sits between the gearbox and the clutch, and there is no other way to reach it. That's why we inspect the disc, pressure plate and flywheel at the same time.

Should the clutch be replaced at the same time?

If the disc or pressure plate is already worn, yes: it costs less than removing the gearbox a second time. We show you their condition in photos, and the decision is yours.
